James Corden tried to avoid going 'full Gordon Ramsay' in his new film amid restaurant ban

James Corden revealed he avoided going "full Gordon Ramsay " as he plays a chef in new drama series.

The Late Late Show host is set to star in the new Amazon Prime comedy-drama, Mammals, where he plays “complex” London chef Jamie Buckingham. The series focuses on Corden's character, whose life is blown apart following his wife’s tragic miscarriage and the discovery that she’s had an affair.

Before filming his latest TV project, the Gavin and Stacey star shadowed a real chef in an attempt to learn the tricks of the trade. In a surprising twist of fate, the release of this series comes after Corden was at the centre of a scandal where he was barred from the Balthazar restaurant in NYC after being rude to staff.

“I really loved working with this brilliant chef who actually ran the restaurant that we were filming in,” he told OK! Magazine. “I spent some time with him and he was talking to me about how to move in the kitchen.”

If James was expecting to witness expletive ridden meltdowns while slaving over those hot stoves, he wasn’t disappointed. “There was one point where [the chef] said, ‘There’s nothing you can say that’s too insulting to any of the people here. There is nothing you can say,’” he revealed.

“The idea of being politically correct has not reached the kitchens yet, and I found that quite extraordinary and tried my best not to go full Gordon Ramsay!”

The release of Corden's new series comes after he was embroiled in scandal after being banned from Keith McNally's popular NYC restaurant, but the media personality was swiftly unbanned after an apology.

The comedian was branded a "gifted comedian" but a "cretin of a man" by McNally in a scathing Instagram post. The restauranteur shared two separate reports from managers of his Balthazar eateries – where one claimed he was "extremely nasty" to one waiter and "demanded" a round of drinks after finding hair in his food

Corden addressed the situation on his TV show and told viewers his side of the story and admitted his comments came in 'the heat of the moment' and insisted he would apologise in person to the staff.

"Because I didn’t shout or scream, I didn’t get up out of my seat, I didn’t call anyone names or use derogatory language, I’ve been walking around thinking that I haven’t done anything wrong," he told viewers. "But the truth is I have made a rude, rude comment. And it was wrong. It was an unnecessary comment, it was ungracious to the server."
