James Corden admits UK return feels 'very strange' and he has no TV jobs lined up

James Corden has said it feels ‘very strange’ to be coming back to the UK after eight years living in Hollywood.

The Late Late Show host is heading back to Blighty this week after apparently turning down an eight-figure sum to stay hosting the popular US chat show.

He revealed he was stepping down to spend more time with his family – but admitted he has no new job lined up.

It comes as the final episode of The Late Late Show with James as host is set to air in America tonight.

Viewers in the UK can watch it on Sky Go, Now TV or Paramount channels when it airs on Friday at 10.15pm.

The show will be 44-year-old James’ 1,200th Late Late Show, which spawned hit segments like Carpool Karaoke, where he sings with celebrities in the car.

Since taking over the hit chat show, James has been credited with raking up 10 billion views with his online clips.

Some of his most memorable Carpool Karaoke moments include with good pal Adele, who will be his final guest.

The pair are seen bursting into tears as Adele revealed a chat with James when she was splitting from her ex-husband inspired her to write her song, I Drink Wine.

As The Late Late Late draws to a close, James told audiences: “I never saw it as my final destination and I never want this show to overstay its welcome.

“I love making it and I really think in a year from now it will be a good time to move on and see what’s out there.”

In a new interview with The Sun ahead of his return to the UK, James shared: “Right know there are a lot of unknowns. It just feels very strange – knowing everything is going to change, but trying to hang on to the fact that change is fundamentally a good thing.”

James said he hoped had hadn’t taken any of the last eight years for granted as he “always knew it would end at some point”.

The dad-of-three continued: “So many people say ‘I’m going to crack America’ and it doesn’t work out for them. Sometimes it has nothing to do with talent and ability. All of your chances are half luck.”

Reflecting on his time in the States, James added: “I don’t know what I’ve done to deserve so many wonderful memories. Even if tonight’s show is my last day in employment anywhere, ever again, I will have had an incredible run.”

James and Ruth as Nessa and Smithy in Gavin & Stacey (Baby Cow)

Although James is massive in America, the thing he is perhaps best known for in the UK is co-writing and starring in comedy show Gavin & Stacey.

And while he weighs up what to do next, it’s been reported James has met up with his Gavin & Stacey co-creator Ruth Jones, who played Nessa on the show.

So could a fourth series of Gavin & Stacey be on the way?

The show first aired in 2007, with three series running until 2010 and to fans excitement, the original cast reunited back in 2019 for a Christmas special which was watched by a whopping 11.6 million people .

Ruth was previously admitted there is “room for more” after the way the Christmas episode ended, so fans will have to watch this space...
