The search is still on for the next 007 – with producers reportedly setting a date for the next round of James Bond auditions.
It’s been five years since Daniel Craig put down the martini glass for good, having starred in five films as the Ian Fleming character over nearly two decades.
While the likes of Callum Turner, Jacob Elordi and Harris Dickinson have been rumoured to be taking on the role in recent months, it’s since been reported that further auditions will be taking place this summer – and it’s not only A-list stars who are being considered.
According to Deadline, a number of actors will be screen-testing to be Bond in August, with the next film’s director Denis Villeneuve calling talent directly.
It is also reported that new casting director Nina Gold has been meeting with actors over the past several weeks, with sources saying that they were “for lesser known names to see if anyone should be added to the list of prominent actors expected to get a call for the next round”.
Gold and Villeneuve have reportedly been contacting actors with details of their August auditions. No names have been given as to who exactly has been tapped.
The Independent has contacted Amazon for comment.
Recently, George Clooney threw his support behind Masters of the Air star Turner to to be the next Bond after having directed the 36-year-old in 2023’s The Boys in the Boat.
“I hope Callum ends up being the next Bond. I think he would be a great Bond,” Clooney told The Hollywood Reporter earlier this month, adding that he would be “the perfect guy to do it” as he is “tall and handsome and charming and British”.
Turner – who wed pop star Dua Lipa last month – responded to the spy speculation around the same time, saying that he finds the rumour mill around the franchise to be “amusing”.
Dodging a question over whether he is in the running, Turner told The Hollywood Reporter: “I know as much as you do – really, I know as much as you do.”
Craig’s last film, No Time To Die, was released in 2021, but the actor had been dropping hints about his Bond exit for years before that. Over the last decade, Idris Elba, Regé-Jean Page, and Tom Holland have all been reported as favourites – however, with Gold being confirmed as the next film’s casting director in May, we seem closer than ever to getting a new 007.
