James Bond: Idris Elba sends fans wild as he teases he's taking over as 007

Idris Elba sent his TikTok followers wild when he made a cheeky 007 hint.

The actor, 53, has long been rumoured as one of the favourites to take on Daniel Craig’s role as James Bond.

But despite widespread speculation and support, Elba has consistently downplayed the rumours, claiming that he's “too old” for the role.

Yet Elba took opportunity to pose with the James Bond waxworks at Madame Tussauds, after his own waxwork figure was unveiled at the attraction.

He playfully captioned the post, which featured the James Bond theme tune: “Wifey made me do it…”

Elba has been married to model and activist Sabrina Dhowre Elba; they wed in 2019 in Morocco after meeting in 2017.

“The Bond we want,” one commenter wrote. “We’re all waiting.”

Another added: “A James Bond if I ever seen one!!! They need to stop playing.”

Though bad news for fans, as it looks like the post was purely a joke - as Elba has recently announced he plans to retire from acting and focus on directing instead.

Current bookies favourites for the role include Callum Turner, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Anthony Boyle, Theo James, Henry Cavill and Jack Lowden.

Elba’s waxwork at Madame Tussauds was unveiled last week.

It’s the star’s first figure at the Baker Street attraction, and the figure is kitted out in a long-sleeve version of the suit that he wore to meet the King in July 2024.

The statue is also wearing a pair of patent Christian Louboutin dress shoes, which have been donated to the museum by Elba.

The Hackney-born actor said it was “amazing” to see himself in the London attraction.

“It’s truly an honour to be recognised in this way and even more special to know this other version of me will be standing tall in London,” Elba said about the statue.

“So, even when I’m away, a part of me is always at home.”

Elba, best known for his roles as Stringer Bell in The Wire and as TV detective Luther, has been involved with the attraction’s artists for months, and called the process “fascinating”.

He said: “It’s not dissimilar to prepping for a movie role – working with talented artists to flesh out the character, getting the costume just right, but this time it’s for me.

“It’s really surreal to see another version of me standing in Madame Tussauds London, it feels like a full circle moment.”
