Jameela Jamil vows to quit Twitter after Elon Musk buys platform for $44 billion

Jameela Jamil has vowed to quit Twitter after the world's richest person, Elon Musk, bought the platform for $44 billion.

The star of The Good Place put out what she said would be her final tweet, featuring pictures of herself with her dog Barold.

Musk's purchase of Twitter has drawn widespread anger from across social media.

Commentators are now speculating what Twitter could look like under Musk, with most projections not looking optimistic.

Predictions range from readmitting former US president Donald Trump due to the enormous traffic he created with his tweets, which frequently contained misinformation.

On April 25, Jamil suggested she would leave the platform if Musk bought it.

She Tweeted: "One good thing about Elon buying twitter is that I will *FINALLY* leave and stop being a complete menace to society on here. So it’s win win for you all really."

When another user asked her "why does that make you want to leave?", she replied: "Because it’s going to become a lawless space of bigotry , misogyny, and xenophobia and people who already have no money… being manipulated about crypto."

Later it was confirmed that Twitter had accepted an offer of $44 billion dollars from Musk to buy the platform.

Jamil responded with what she said would be her final tweet, and aimed to put a positive spin on it by posting some pictures of her with her puppy Barold.

She wrote: "Ah he got twitter. I would like this to be my what lies here as my last tweet. Just really *any* excuse to show pics of Barold. I fear this free speech bid is going to help this hell platform reach its final form of totally lawless hate, bigotry, and misogyny. Best of luck."

Musk's purchase of Twitter has drawn speculation about what changes he could make, including introducing more adverts and even paywalls on certain functions of the app.

The world's richest man drew criticism over the purchase, with some commenting on his ghosting of the UN after he pledged to donate $6 billion to "end world hunger" if they could come up with a plan of how it would be spent.

Though the plan was presented, the money never materialised.
