Jalen Hurts ties Super Bowl record held by Terrell Davis

The Philadelphia Eagles came up just short in their effort to defeat the Kansas City Chiefs in LVII on Sunday, but quarterback Jalen Hurts made some history in a losing effort.

Hurts rushed 15 times for 70 yards and three touchdowns in a 38-35 loss to the Chiefs. The last — and only other — player to rush for three touchdowns in a Super Bowl was running back Terrell Davis in Super Bowl XXXII.

Davis rushed 30 times for 157 yards and three scores in the Denver Broncos’ 31-24 win over the Green Bay Packers following the 1997 NFL season. Davis’ impressive performance earned him Super Bowl MVP honors. He then went on to win NFL MVP in 1998 after rushing for 2,008 yards and 21 touchdowns.

In addition to his three rushing scores, Hurts also threw for 304 yards and a touchdown against the Chiefs. Had the Eagles managed to hang on and defeat KC, Hurts likely would have won the MVP award on Sunday.

Instead, it’s back to the drawing board for Philly and every other team that will aim to knock the Chiefs off the top of the mountain in 2023.
