Jakobi Meyers comments on decision to leave Patriots for Raiders

Former New England Patriots receiver Jakobi Meyers is exactly where he wanted to be, and that isn’t with the Patriots.

On Tuesday, it was reported that Meyers had agreed to a three-year, $33 million deal with the Las Vegas Raiders, which will reunite him with Patriots former offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels. It was a gut-punch signing for a struggling Patriots receiving corps that looks much worse off than it did last season.

“It’s hard to turn down Las Vegas,” said Meyers, per CBS Sports’ Josina Anderson. “When you look at their offense, when you look at their coaches. They wanted me, I wanted them. Unfortunately it didn’t work out with the Patriots. I put a lot of effort in my time there. I appreciate them, but God works in mysterious ways. I’m blessed.”

The Patriots offense was a complete mess in 2022 with Matt Patricia calling the offensive plays. Yet, even with Bill O’Brien taking over in 2023, the Patriots still couldn’t come to an agreement to keep one of their best homegrown players in New England.

It’s a big loss for the team that leaves an even bigger hole to fill offensively.
