Jake Paul's former opponent delivers verdict on YouTuber's clash with Tommy Fury

Jake Paul's former rival Ben Askren has no "f****** idea" if the YouTube star will defeat Tommy Fury.

Paul will lace up his gloves for a sixth time as a professional when he will finally settle his rivalry with Fury at Madison Square Garden on August 6. The YouTube star has made an undefeated star to his career defeating the likes of former UFC champion Tyron Woodley and Askren.

However his former opponent has admitted he does not watch boxing despite having made the switch from the cage to the squared circle. "It was unfortunate what he did to Tyron Woodley," Askren said when assessing the fight during an interview with The Schmo. "I don't watch boxing and I am not a boxer.

"I haven't watched any of Tommy Fury's fights but he says he is a good boxer but I will tell you I have no f****** idea what will happen. I don't know really know anything about Tommy Fury but I do know he has got a really good older brother."

Askren was brutally knocked out by Paul during the YouTube star's first headlining of a pay-per-view card on Showtime in the US. The pair were a complete mismatch with Askren quickly dispatched by Paul who went on to outpoint Woodley. Paul then challenged Woodley again after Fury was forced to withdraw from their planned December date.

Paul recorded another highlight-reel knockout before calling out a range of different opponents including UFC stars Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz. His last outing significantly underachieved at the box office due to the lack of Fury challenge, with Paul now needing a big fight to progress his career.

His next outing against Fury will no doubt be the toughest test of his short career with his opponent having an extensive boxing background. Paul has claimed he has shown his dedication to boxing by accepting the fight despite being doubtful over a new date. “I wasn’t sure I was going to say yes to another potential matchup against Tommy after he pulled out of our matchup last year,” Paul explained.

“But ultimately, knocking out a Fury was too appealing to pass up. I’ve proven I am dedicated to boxing in and out of the ring, from promoting fights, championing fighters and fighter pay, to knocking out my opponents. The Furys cannot say the same, they are selfish t******. On August 6, at 'the mecca'; Madison Square Garden, the world will see why I am on my way to being a world champion. I’m honoured to fight under the same lights as some of the greatest professional boxers in history.”

Paul held talks with a number of other fighters over a potential fight including UFC legend Anderson Silva and boxing star Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. The YouTube star could set up a potential shot at boxing legend Mike Tyson if he comes through the Fury test, with the heavyweight confirming a fight could take place before the end of the year.
