Jake Paul's coach BJ Flores has been rushed to hospital after being shot in the leg during an armed robbery.
Flores cornered the influencer for his defeat by Tommy Fury in Saudi Arabia last month, and previously fought in the ring himself at cruiserweight. After spending his time coaching Paul, Flores travelled to Colombia and was in Meddelin where he was approached by armed assailants at a set of traffic lights.
The American trainer was bundled out of his car and held at gunpoint by the robbers with them pointing the firearm at his head. However Flores accounted managing to move the weapon away from his head, but a robber pulled the trigger and shot him in the leg.
The 44-year-old was then rushed to hospital and received urgent medical treatment for the wound which he documented on his social media. After suffering a scare for his life, Flores produced a video account of the incident on his social media, where he suggested he was grateful to still be alive.
He wrote on Instagram: “Tonight I was attacked by two armed motorcycle drivers as a passenger at a RED LIGHT. They pulled up, stuck a gun to my head, tried to steal my wallet and my watch. They shot me one time in the leg and I defended myself the best way I could.
“I am still in the emergency room waiting to have the bullet removed at 5:18am. Thank you for the well wishes. I will learn from this. Be safe out there please. Life is precious.” Flores later added during the video part of the post: “You can see where the pistol was held right there [pointing to head]. They came to the car and put the pistol right there. It’s crazy, I don’t know what to say.

"The pistol was right there, he yelled at me to give my wallet and my watch, everything. We were definitely targeted. They couldn’t have possibly seen my watch so we were definitely targeted. It is what it is, I’m still alive, everything’s good, I’m happy. The doctors came in and told me we’ve got surgery coming up now. Stay safe out there.”
Flores had a successful career in the ring but was stopped by British star Tony Bellew in his WBC cruiserweight title challenge. The American will hope to be healthy and back in the corner for Paul's potential rematch against Fury, which is being targeted for the summer of this year.
