Jake Paul joked he had suffered an accident during a cringey sketch in which he hits out at his past and present opponents for leaving him to "carry" the promotion of their fights.
The YouTube star will return to the ring for the sixth time as a professional when he takes on Hasim Rahman Jr on August 6 at the iconic Madison Square Garden. His new rival has a record of 12-1 during his own time in boxing and will likely pose the sternest test of Paul's credentials so far, given the latter has not yet fought an opponent with a natural background in the sport.
Paul is famous for his popular comedy sketches and entertaining call-outs, which have seen him accumulate around 15million subscribers on video streaming service YouTube. His latest sketch sees him lying in a hospital bed with a medicine drip and a gown on with his eyes closed. He begins in the video: "So guys, I am in the hospital. I had an accident, I am still going to be able to fight on August 6, so get your tickets at MSG.com before they sell out."
WARNING: STRONG LANGUAGE
Paul briefly pretends to become emotional before quickly switching mood: "I broke my back... carrying the promotion for this event. It's broken." Paul then jokingly winces in pain before shouting for his girlfriend, Julia Rose, who is dressed as a nurse.
She emerges while faking concern for her partner, who then continues by screaming: "I broke my back carrying these last five fights' promotion. My opponent never sells s***. Ahh it hurts." Paul then sits up in a joking rage from his position lying on the fake hospital bed.
He then finishes: "These motherf****** never sell s***. They couldn't sell a pen to a writer." Paul has become notorious for his sketches alongside Rose, who previously joined forces with Paul to mock his rival Fury and partner Molly Mae Hague.
Paul was set to meet Fury at the second attempt of scheduling the fight this summer, but the British star was banned from travelling the United States after signing the contract to accept the showdown. Paul offered a deadline to Fury to resolve the matter but the British star failed to comply and is yet to visit the US embassy in a bid to resurrect the fight.
Instead, Paul will look to move to six professional victories by squaring off against Rahman Jr next month. The internet sensation believes he is the "saviour" of boxing after its recent revival. "I think this is why boxing was such a dying sport before I came into it," he said during an appearance on The MMA Hour .
"I literally saved the whole entire sport, basically single-handedly along with some other heavyweights and some lightweights. But mostly because of me, boxing was saved. And I'm starting to realise what the problem was; it's all of these fighters who don't want to man up and actually make these fights happen. That's why you don't see the biggest fights."
