Jake Paul donates $10,000 to one of UFC's lowest-paid fighters amid pay row

Jake Paul said he will donate $10,000 to UFC 273 fighter Mike Malott's cancer fundraiser.

Malott, who knocked out Mickey Gall at the event, revealed he was giving half of his fight purse to his coach Joey Rodriguez to help with his 15-year-old daughter who is battling stage three lymphoma.

The Canadian fighter was making his UFC debut on the card after impressing on the Contender Series last year. Malott is on the UFC's most basic salary package but showed selfishness by donating his $10,000 win bonus to his coach.

Paul caught onto the news that Malott was giving away half of his money and said: "Mike Malott congrats on the win. Count me and Boxing Bullies in for $10K. F*** cancer and f*** shitty fighter pay".

YouTube star turned boxer Paul is highly critical of UFC fighter pay and has challenged Dana White to increase it. Paul said he would retire from boxing if White increased the minimum purse to $50,000, guaranteed fighters 50 per cent of revenue and provided them with long-term healthcare.

UFC boss White almost matched Paul in his efforts as he said Malott can keep his win bonus as he will donate $10,000 to his cause. "He looked good, the kid looked good," White said of Malott. "He's fun to watch, he can keep his $10,000 and I'll donate both his show and win [money] to his coach."

Malott explained why he felt it was necessary to donate his win purse to his coach and revealed that several fans gave him money as he left the octagon to help with the cause.

"To hear that someone I love, my boxing coach Joey Rodriguez, someone I've known for eight years and has helped me get to this point, to find out that he and his family have to go through this with a beautiful 15-year-old daughter it's heartbreaking," he said.

"I'm like 'look man, I could use the money but they could use it a hell of a lot more than I could'. They need this money, I wanna make sure they get the best doctors and best medicine money can buy, so they can kick this thing's a**."

"I want to quickly say thank you so much to the fans of this sport who, as I'm walking out of the cage, handed me a wad of cash to donate to their fight against cancer. You have no idea how much it means to me and my team."
