Jake Paul explains why loss to bitter rival Tommy Fury is a "gift from the universe"

Jake Paul has insisted his loss to Tommy Fury is a win in all other aspects of his life.

Paul, 26, suffered his first professional defeat when he was outpointed by Love Island star Fury last month in Saudi Arabia. The YouTuber-turned-boxer scored a knockdown in the final round but it wasn't enough as Fury won by split decision to earn himself a spot in the WBC rankings. 'The Problem Child' initially praised Fury for being the better man after the fight, but has now backtracked by claiming that the Brit "didn't win".

The loss has made Paul realise that his unbeaten boxing record has little importance to his other life goals, stating on Impaulsive: "This is a gift from universe in terms of life and personal growth as a human being, then this is a win. I want to be happy, love myself and have eternal confidence regardless of any situation.

"This put me so many steps closer to that because I thought my identity, was so close to winning and being undefeated. Being some bada** tough person who never loses that makes all of this money, but after I lost I realised none of that makes me awesome. My identity is just who I am and that's all I need to be and that's good enough for me."

Paul has played down a fight against KSI next as he wants to avenge his loss to Fury before facing his YouTuber rival. 'The Problem Child' is expected to activate his rematch clause for a second fight against the Brit, with July being a targeted date for the second fight. Paul has given several excuses for his recent loss and insisted that Fury "didn't win" their meeting in Riyadh.

"Tommy didn't win the fight, I lost it. I was not good, I was not on my A-game. I didn't implement the gameplan, my legs were weak going into the fight. I think I cut the weight improperly in such like a seven-week camp as normally we do a 12-week camp. We squeezed in this camp, but I don't want to sit here and make excuses," Paul added

"I lost the fight, I wasn't at my best and it's that simple. I think a little bit of pressure is good but I had a lot of pressure and the stakes kept getting higher and higher each fight. Now there is definitely more relaxation going into the next one. A lot of things played into the [loss], even getting a point deducted in the beginning of the fight."
