Jake Humphrey has been laughed off after comparing Frank Lampard and Thomas Tuchel’s situations at Chelsea a year on after the English coach was sacked from Stamford Bridge.
During those 12 months, the Blues went on to win the Champions League and have looked formidable at times under their new German coach.
However, the former Paris Saint-Germain and Borussia Dortmund boss has come under mounting pressure after a string of dismal displays that has some murmuring that change could be on its way soon.
The European champions relinquished another lead to drop points on Tuesday night when they drew 1-1 against Brighton at the Amex Stadium.
Hakim Ziyech’s long-range effort was cancelled out by Adam Webster’s thumping header in the second half and Chelsea were lucky to cling on to a point against their south-coast opponents.
It prompted Humphrey to tweet: “Chelsea 12 points off the top. Frank Lampard lost his job a year ago this week…11 points off to top.”
But that has drawn criticism of the BT Sport presenter, including newly-crowned Masters champion Neil Robertson.
The Australian, who is a massive Chelsea fan, replied: “City have just won 12 on the spin. Chelsea decimated by injuries and Covid the past month.
“Tuchel got us to the FA cup final, won the CL, won the super cup and just got us into the league cup final…”
Another replied: “Chelsea were 9th when Lampard was sacked, they are now 3rd. Lampard was sacked on 19 games, 29 points (1.52 per game).
“Tuchel has 23 games, 44 points (1.91 per game). But apart from that, them winning the Champions League and reaching every cup final available, it's a good point.”
And it did not stop there, with one Twitter user saying: “What an embarrassing tweet.”
This Chelsea fan said: “There is a difference. Stop this analogy that doesn't hold water.
“It is lame and very vindictive, Tuchel won Chelsea the champions league. That alone is priceless and even against Manchester city, that title would continue to speak for him I don't care how long he's staying!”
And another wrote: “Stop trying to create a problem. We are currently third in the table. Even after the injuries, Covid and schedule we've had.”
While Chelsea remain in a strong position having just landed another cup final under Tuchel’s stewardship, their league form has looked poor in recent weeks.
The 1-1 draw against Brighton was the latest in a number of poor results including a 1-0 defeat against Manchester City where they barely laid a finger on the Premier League champions.
The Blues have won just three in their last 11 league matches - significantly marking the last time they had key player Ben Chilwell before losing him for the rest of the season to injury.

Back then, Chelsea were flying high having beaten Leicester 3-0 at the King Power Stadium and were four points clear at the top of the table.
However, it has been a slippery slope since and they have now dropped behind by 12 points - while league leaders City also have a game in hand.
Chelsea have played more than anyone else in the last six weeks with many clubs having games postponed but they find themselves potentially fending off teams for fourth spot.
