Home favourite Jake Dennis admits his fondness for the London E-Prix comes from the fact he's so quick around the unique track.
The Avalanche Andretti driver won in front of the adoring English crowd on Saturday after taking pole position before coming second in Sunday's race. The Excel Centre venue allows for a never before seen indoor-outdoor track, which provides unique challenges.
It has divided opinion though with some drivers claiming there isn't not enough overtaking opportunities which results in some ambitious moves and, as a result, several collisions. The likes of Mitch Evans and Stoffel Vandoorne were able to scythe through the field, but there are still some who would be open to a re-design - which is on the cards for Gen 3 next season.
Dennis admitted that he loves the track, having also won in London last year, but may also have reservations about it if he wasn't so successful. He said: "I love the circuit, but I love it because I win here. The indoor section is very cool, that creates the pre-grid ceremony thing which you don't get anywhere else. It would be great to have a few more overtaking opportunities for sure, that would be great for the track."
He went on to add: "The fast the circuit the better it is. This circuit is quite good fun, but only because I'm fast here. If I was slow I'd be like 'it is too slow, too tight, too twisty, no overtaking'. But when you win here twice you're always going to say 'this is great'."
Dennis was beaten to the chequered flag on Sunday by Lucas di Grassi, but the Andretti driver still picked up 51 points at the weekend - more than anyone else on the grid. Prior to London Dennis' best result was a third place in the opening round of the season.
It means he has been unable to mount a title charge once more, having been in contention going into the final round 12 months ago. Mercedes-EQ and Rokit Venturi have been amongst the quickest outfits and Dennis feels his current standing in the championship is a fair reflection of his car's pace.
He said: "There's no frustration (about not being in the title hunt) because honestly there's not been any mistakes, we've just not been quick enough in certain situations. I think where I am in the championship is where I deserve to be. I just think we are very good in slow speed circuits and not very in the faster circuits. We seemed to improve on a few things.
"I think if you're going to pick up form you want to do it at the end of the year because then everyone has remembered how you've finished, can take that into the winter, you're full of energy and positive vibes. If we can keep this going into Seoul."
Season 8 of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship reaches its conclusion in Seoul, South Korea with a double-header on August 13 and 14.
