Jaipur: Cops stop Aam Aadmi Party workers from anti-Agnipath march in city

JAIPUR: Over a dozen Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) workers protesting the Agnipath scheme were detained outside the party office here on Monday.

As the AAP workers prepared to start a march from their state office on Sahkar Marg to the BJP office in the city, police prevented them from the act. AAP leaders later accused the Ashok Gehlot government of curtailing their right to freedom of speech and expression. The detained party workers were released later in the day.

“Protests against Agnipath were to be held by AAP across Rajasthan, but police gheraoed the Jaipur office and prevented the agitation, which is very unfortunate. This is sheer display of dictatorship and injustice,” said Vinay Mishra, in-charge of AAP in Rajasthan, in a tweet.

Taking a dig at Gehlot for camping in Delhi for Congress leader Rahul Gandhi during the ED interrogation, Mishra said it was unfortunate that police were used in Rajasthan to stop AAP’s protest.

Mishra alleged that Jaipur police had gheraoed the AAP’s Jaipur office since Sunday night to prevent the assembly of party workers. He also said police stopped party workers to step inside the party office in the morning.

“Even senior party workers were not allowed to step out to lead the march. This shows that both Congress and BJP are hand in glove with each other. They are doing all they can to prevent us from taking the stand against their anti-people schemes and policies,” said Mayank Tyagi of AAP.
