Jaipur: Armed men hold mom & baby captive, loot Rs 10 lakh & 2kg gold

JAIPUR: Three armed men barged into the house of a former councillor in Sanganer in broad daylight on Thursday and decamped with Rs 10 lakh cash and around 2 kg of gold after holding a woman and her baby captive.

This is a second such case of loot in the last three days in Jaipur. Earlier on Tuesday, two armed men had robbed Rs 15 lakh from the vault room of a bank in Chomu house.

According to a family member, Sachin Saini, an advocate at the high court, the incident took place shortly after 2 pm when her father, Ram Dhan Saini, a former councillor and a property dealer, had just left their house in Gulab Vihar area after completing some work.

"One man came to the house and asked for my father Ram Dhan Saini. My sister-in-law was near the gate when the accused took out a weapon and asked her to keep quiet," Saini said.

Saini alleged that the accused also attacked her sister-in-law, Shilpa, and covered her face with tape, and kept her captive at gunpoint. "They also attacked her two-month-old daughter," he alleged.

According to the family, the suspects rifled through the closets and drawers of the hall and decamped.

"I returned at 3.40 pm and I found the house ransacked. I discovered my daughter-in-law was tied up and freed her. She was terrified and crying," Saini said.

Saini said he alerted the Sanganer police station following which multiple cops arrived to take stock of the situation, "They fled with all gold and Rs 10 lakh cash," he said.

Additional DCP (East) Avnish Kumar Sharma said the investigation into the case was underway. Investigators from the special team of the city police arrived at the house and examined nearby localities and CCTVs.

The sources in the city police suspect that long planning preceded the heist because the accused knew the exact time to strike when most of the family members were away.

The incidents triggered a wave of panic in the area with several residents raising concerns about spotty security in the locality.
