Jaime Winstone shares behind scenes EastEnders snaps as she gets teary over Peggy role

Jaime Winstone has shared behind-the-scenes photos from the recent flashback episode of EastEnders and posted an emotional video about the late Barbara Windsor.

The actor, 37, played a younger Peggy Mitchell in a one-off special of the BBC soap that aired last night, which explored the backstory of the Mitchell family in the year 1979.

She took to Instagram this morning to share photos from the production and has also posted a video of herself that was filmed backstage shortly after filming wrapped.

The first photo showed her with co-stars from the episode, including Daniel Delaney and Teddy Jay, who played her on-screen sons Phil Mitchell and Grant Mitchell respectively.

They were seen alongside George Russo (Eric Mitchell), Dean Roberts (Stephen Mitchell), Laila Murphy (Sam Mitchell) and Charlie Heptinstall (Charlie Mitchell).

Another photo showed her and Jessie Wallace - who plays Kat Slater in the regular EastEnders - posing with matching rings. Jaime was in period costume for their selfie together.

She also had a photo with Steve McFadden, who has played Phil since 1990. He was seen embraced in a hug with Jaime, who was again wearing wardrobe from the show.

Other photos appeared to show her in a dressing room as well as one showcasing props from the set, which included a historic newspaper and a selection of magazines.

After sharing the photos, Jaime took to the platform again to post footage of herself - seemingly filmed in her dressing room on set - in which she said that filming had wrapped.

The footage saw the actor get emotional as she discussed the opportunity of getting to play the same role as the late Barbara, with Jaime seen teary-eyed during the video.

She had once played Barbara - who originated the role of Peggy on EastEnders - in the biopic Babs, about the actor's life, which aired prior to her passing in 2020.

Jaime explained in the video: "I just wrapped on playing Peggy Mitchell. Just feeling extremely grateful right now to play a dear friend of mine who is no longer with us."

Visibly emotional, she continued: "There were so many different little signs that she came to me and said that I should go ahead and do this. I just want to say thank you Barbara."

The actor also thanked those behind the flashback episode for "highlighting some seriously important issues" that are happening now and were in the period when it was set.

She concluded by thanking Barbara for having "opened so many doors" for her and described the late actor as a "beautiful person" who "emanated a massive heart".

"I hope I did you justice," a teary-eyed Jaime commented in the video. After composing herself, the actor concluded by referencing the iconic line: "Get out of my pub!"

EastEnders' flashback episode is available through BBC iPlayer.
