NEW DELHI: Delhi Police has claimed in a chargesheet filed on Thursday that the Jahangirpuri riots were not organic or a sudden flare-up but orchestrated in continuation of the protests against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act and National Register of Citizens held in 2019 and 2020 in areas like Shaheen Bagh and northeast Delhi. Police have added Section 120B (criminal conspiracy) - not in the FIR originally - in the chargesheet.
"From the investigation conducted so far and material on record, it is established that the present incident was in continuation of the protests against CAA and NRC of 2019 & 2020 in Shaheen Bagh and the northeast Delhi riots of February 2020, which got further aggravated after the Ram Navami incidents on April 10, 2022 in different parts of the country," police have said in the chargesheet. This was also included in a statement made by the police spokesperson.
