Jaguars open WR Parker Washington’s 21-day window to return from IR

The Jacksonville Jaguars will begin working rookie wide receiver and returner Parker Washington back into the mix after activating his 21-day practice window to return from injured reserve, the team announced Wednesday.

Washington, 21, was a healthy scratch for the first three games of the year before stepping into the lineup in Week 4 when Jamal Agnew was out due to injury. Washington’s NFL debut didn’t last long as he suffered a knee injury on his second career snap that sent him to the IR.

While the Jaguars have until early December to move Washington to the active roster, that move may come much sooner than that.

Agnew suffered a shoulder injury Sunday against the San Francisco 49ers and coach Doug Pederson wasn’t optimistic about the veteran’s chances of playing in the Jaguars’ upcoming game against the Tennessee Titans in Week 11.

“There’s a potential that as the week progresses, we’ll see where he’s at, but it doesn’t look promising right now on a Monday,” Pederson said. “We’ll see where he is during the course of the week.”

It’s likely that Washington has been healed up and ready for a return for a while. There just wasn’t much urgency from the Jaguars to make a roster move when it’d mean the rookie would take one of 53 spots on the active roster and likely be a healthy scratch on game days.

Don’t be surprised if Washington is moved to the active roster later this week, making him available as the team’s returner Sunday against the Titans.
