Jaguars make practice squad signing to replace Terrell Edmunds

The Jaguars identified their practice squad replacement for safety Terrell Edmunds, signing former Eagles cornerback Zechariah McPhearson on Tuesday.

Edmunds was signed away from Jacksonville’s practice squad by Pittsburgh Monday, after being elevated to the Jaguars’ active roster for Week 1 against Miami. He logged six defensive snaps, filling in for backup safety Daniel Thomas, who was ruled out of the game Saturday with an Achilles injury.

A fourth-round NFL draft pick by Philadelphia in 2021, McPhearson appeared in 37 total games with the Eagles before suffering a season-ending Achilles injury during the 2023 preseason. He was waived by the club this August.

McPhearson has recorded 30 tackles including one for loss and two defended passes in the regular season and two tackles in the playoffs.

McPhearson was named the NFC Special Teams Player of the Week for his performance in Philadelphia’s 2022 season-opener, when he recovered an onside kick attempt and made two special teams tackles against Detroit in a 38-35 Eagles’ victory.

McPhearson joins the Jaguars after starting cornerback Tyson Campbell suffered a hamstring injury against Miami that Jacksonville head coach Doug Pederson said will cause him to “miss some time.”
