Jaguars bring back QB C.J. Beathard

With Jaguars starting quarterback Trevor Lawrence nursing a sore non-throwing shoulder entering Week 10, Jacksonville signed quarterback C.J. Beathard to its active roster and away from the Miami Dolphins’ practice squad on Wednesday.

A reunion, Beathard returns to the Jaguars after being released with an injury settlement in August. He hurt his groin in Jacksonville’s preseason finale against the Atlanta Falcons.

Beathard served as Lawrence’s backup from the latter’s rookie 2021 season through last year. Mac Jones snatched that position from Beathard this offseason following his trade to Jacksonville from New England in March.

Beathard completed 49-of-66 passes for 417 yards with one touchdown and one interception over 13 appearances with Jacksonville, including going 17-of-24 for 178 yards in his lone start with the Jaguars, a 26-0 win over the Carolina Panthers last season while Lawrence was sidelined due to injury.

An eighth-year pro, Beathard has completed 340-of-563 for 3,886 yards with 19 touchdowns and 14 interceptions in his NFL career.
