Jaguars 2023 roster review: TE Evan Engram

The brunt of the offseason is in the books and training camp is still off on the horizon. Join us in the NFL’s dead zone with a player-by-player review of the Jaguars roster ahead of the 2023 season.

The New York Giants couldn’t quite get former first-round pick Evan Engram to realize his potential. The Jacksonville Jaguars didn’t have the same problem.

After signing the tight end to a one-year deal during the 2022 offseason, the Jaguars got stellar play out of Engram, who finished the year with career-high reception and receiving yard totals.

Jacksonville opted to use the franchise tag in March to keep Engram from reaching free agency and the team has until July 17 to reach a long-term deal with the tight end. Regardless if an agreement is reached, Engram is set to play the 2023 season with the Jaguars.

Contract (2023): $11.345 million base salary, $11.345 million cap hit.

Acquired: Jaguars signed Engram to a one-year deal on March 16, 2022.

Highlight:

Quote: “Evan really is a natural leader in the way that he speaks to the team. The way he just evokes his emotion. I don’t think it’s disingenuine, I think when he speaks, he really means it and a lot of people follow what he does and the types of things that he does. He leads by example and so when someone like that speaks before the game it’s like … I got people beside me that I know are gonna play with me.” – Jaguars receiver Zay Jones on Engram
