Jada Pinkett Smith has dropped the bombshell that she and husband Will Smith have been separated for seven years.
The revelation comes after Smith infamously slapped comedian Chris Rock across the face at last year’s Oscars after he made a joke about Pinkett Smith’s hair-loss.
The Girls Trip actress, 52, and Men In Black star Will, 55, have been married since 1997 and share two grown up children together - son Jaden, 25, and daughter Willow, 22.
Smith also has an older son, Trey Smith, from his first marriage to actress Sheree Zampino.
Pinkett Smith and Smith’s marriage has long been the subject of much speculation with Pinkett Smith previously denying reports that they were in an open relationship.
Whispers about the state of their marriage reached fever pitch in 2020, when Pinkett Smith revealed she’d had an “entanglement” with singer August Alsina.
Pinkett Smith toldPeople in a new interview: “We’re still figuring it out.”
Insisting that they have no plans to divorce, she added: “We’ve been doing some really heavy-duty work together.
“We just got deep love for each other and we are going to figure out what that looks like for us.”
Addressing Smith walloping Rock at the Oscars, Pinkett Smith told the publication she had thought it had been “a skit”.
“I was like, ‘There’s no way that Will hit him,” she recalled.
“It wasn’t until Will started to walk back to his chair that I even realised it wasn’t a skit.”
She added that the first words she uttered to husband once they were alone after the show were “Are you OK?”
