The Washington Commanders made a quarterback change this week. Washington benched starter Sam Howell ahead of its Week 17 game against the San Francisco 49ers. Veteran Jacoby Brissett would get his first start of the season after back-to-back impressive performances in relief of Howell.
Now, Brissett could miss Sunday’s game after he injured his hamstring during Friday’s practice. Brissett was added to Washington’s final injury report and listed as questionable for Sunday against the 49ers.
If Brissett can’t go, the Commanders will turn back to Howell.

Howell was impressive through the first half of the season but has struggled for weeks. Brissett relieved Howell in each of Washington’s last two games and led the Commanders to five touchdowns in his six drives under center.
The 49ers have one of the NFL’s best defenses, and Howell, who has been sacked 60 times, will be without left tackle Charles Leno Jr. again, and right tackle Andrew Wylie is questionable.
Washington has lost six consecutive games and is a significant underdog to San Francisco.
