JackJumpers ease past Taipans in NBL

Tasmania have kept the pressure on the NBL's top four with an important 85-69 win over Cairns in far north Queensland.

The victory is the JackJumpers seventh from their last 10 outings and moves Scott Roth's side to 500 on the season with a 9-9 record.

After a sluggish start and being outscored by the Taipans 19-15 in the first quarter, the JackJumpers blasted the home side from three-point territory on a 37-13 run to lead by as many as 21 midway through the third period.

That scoring from beyond the arc is quintessential of the JackJumpers in their first year in the NBL, but it didn't come early as the Tasmanians started 2-of-10 from deep.

Josh Adams' and Josh Magette's penetration in the key then freed up their perimeter shooters, the JackJumpers shooting 43 per cent from three-point range as their guard duo took control.

Adams led all scorers with 20 points on 3-of-7 from deep as the visitors totalled five players in double figures to register just their fourth road win of the season.

While not stuffing the stat sheet, Matt Kenyon was imperative to their success with his defensive reads to finish plus 26 on the court, while Fabijan Krslovic had 13 points against his former team.

"When you go on the road it's difficult to win, and every time you can win on the road I think there's a statement being made by this group," JackJumpers coach Scott Roth said.

"Forde (Taipans coach Adam Forde) unfortunately hasn't had a full roster to deal with all year but they're still extremely dangerous and I think it was just a good statement win for us ... with a chance on Sunday to peek our head above 500."

For the Taipans (4-11) it was another evening to forget on their home court as Forde's side were simply outhustled after the first quarter.

Star point guard Scott Machado struggled with just seven points while Keanu Pinder's interior presence was lost when he fouled out early in the second half.

Forde was blunt and at a loss for words following another capitulation by his side.

"It's embarrassing," he said.

"After everything we rolled out today especially with the Bamaga footage and our Indigenous round jerseys, that was embarrassing.

"Credit to Tassie, they outworked us in every category ... there was nothing we did to disrupt them to make them feel out of their comfort zone."
