It turns out the rumours were true: Meghan Markle is, in fact, appearing at an event hosted by Her Best Life podcast founders Jackie ‘O’ Henderson and Gemma O’Neill.
The catch? It’ll cost you an eye-watering $2,699 to attend. Pocket change!
Speculation about Markle’s possible collab with Henderson arose earlier this week, smack-bang in the middle of all the ongoing drama around the Kyle & Jackie O Show.
Setting that aside (for now), Henderson’s podcast co-host O’Neill confirmed on social media that the Duchess of Sussex will headline a retreat in Sydney this April.
“I can’t believe I’m even saying those words,” O’Neill said when announcing Markle’s appearance.”There’s no one more shocked than me. I know what you’re all thinking, because I’m thinking the same thing.”
Markle will appear as a special guest for a Q&A session during the two-day experience. It’s taking place at the InterContinental hotel in Coogee, as part of Markle’s broader Aussie visit alongside her husband, Prince Harry.
The royal couple (ex royals? Six degrees away from royalty?) will be in town for what their office described as “series of private, business, and philanthropic engagements”. It is a reportedly very short trip, and will mark their first stint Down Under since 2018.
Those hoping to get a glimpse of the Duchess at the retreat should brace themselves. Early bird tickets to the podcast retreat start at $2,699, but they somehow go up from there. The VIP experience, which includes a group photo with Markle, is $3,199.
In other words, enough cash for Markle to continue making bucketloads of homemade jam and topping everything in sight with edible flowers à la With Love, Meghan.
Henderson had co-hosted the Her Best Life podcast with O’Neill since 2022, but revealed in February she was “stepping away”.
O’Neill said she “tried to beg [Henderson] to come and do” the interview with Markle for the retreat, but Henderson insisted the event “is meant to be for you”.
Still, it’s not known for sure whether Henderson will appear in some capacity at the retreat, though it’d certainly mark a major move in the fallout of her radio show’s suspension.
The Kyle & Jackie O show is currently off the air after its parent company announced Henderson has resigned over an on-air spat with her co-host Kyle Sandilands. In the wake of the news, Henderson denied quitting the show while Sandilands asked for his job back.
Wherever that story lands, let us be glad Sandilands won’t be anywhere near the podcast retreat. I simply can’t imagine how Markle would react if he asked her to, I don’t know, play a round of guess the piss.
