The Masked Singer looks to have exposed the identity of one of its own stars, by allowing Jacket Potato to do what a growing number of fans of the show believe he is most famous for.
When Jacket Potato made his Masked Singer debut with a cover of Elvis' Viva Las Vegas, both the show's panel and viewers at home were convinced he was 'faking' his American accent, leading fans down the road of it possibly being a British star like Bradley Walsh, Brian Conley or Shane Richie.
EastEnders star Shane has been the name of many people's lips for a month now, with plenty saying it was Shane's vocals that gave him away, while admitting that they were having a hard time linking any of the clues to him. However, in recent weeks another star has become the source of other viewers' theories and the star is rock legend and Bon Jovi guitarist Richie Sambora.
Armchair detectives have successfully worked out how various clues in VTs and riddles add up to Jacket Potato being Richie. Tweeting during last weekend's Masked Singer, one fan sure of Richie behind the mask, wrote: "Definitely Richie Sambora. The clues fit from before and this week. The 50% is 'half way there'. The slide is 'slippery when wet'. Past clues, the jar with names giving love a bad name. The biggest clue of them all, it sounds like him!"
Also sure with their guess, another tweeted: "50% = ‘woaaah we’re halfway there’… He tried turning on the tap to a slip n slide = a reference to the Slippery When Wet album and being a foil = sidekick to Jon. Alllll the clues add up each week if you know it’s Richie Sambora"
And, almost as soon as Jacket Potato appeared on stage with a guitar on Saturday night, to perform Fleetwood Mac's Go Your Own Way, before a double elimination, scores of viewers claimed to have their suspicions confirmed, with one tweeting: "Jacket Potato is one million percent Richie Sambora. ‘Go Your Own Way’- he left Bon Jovi 10 years ago. And I know that voice and that playing anywhere."
Also adamant it's Richie, a second reacted: "Jacket Potato can’t be anyone other than Richie Sambora after those references to song writing, selling out stadiums and that guitar playing"
