Jackass star Bam Margera admits he was 'basically pronounced dead' after seizures

Bam Margera has candidly discussed his latest health scare, saying he was "basically pronounced dead" after suffering four seizures and swallowing blood.

The Jackass star, 43, was talking to his former co-star Steve-O on his Wild Ride podcast on Thursday when he opened up on the severity of his condition.

Incorrectly referencing Elvis Presley's birthday, the professional skateboard said: "I basically was pronounced dead on Elvis' birthday December 8th, did not know that I had like gnarly Covid, my body was shutting down and I went into four seizures."

He claimed each seizure lasted between 10 and 20 minutes and revealed he bit his tongue during the last one which led to complications as he began swallowing his blood.

Bam continued: "I bit my tongue so hard it was like nearly falling off, it got so swollen and puffy it wouldn't fit in my mouth and I was drinking the infected blood which gave me pneumonia as well."

Following a fifth seizure, the star says he was unable to breath without a tube and was left needing ICU treatment in San Diego for over a week.

"'I woke up five days later thinking I was there for a couple hours," he added. "They're like 'Dude you've been here for nearly a week. We tried to take the tube out, and you weren't breathing on your own'.

"So I spent eight days in there," he said, admitting he had no recollection of when he was unconscious.

Following his release from hospital last month, Bam took to Instagram to update his fans on his condition. Sharing a snap of him smiling alongside a pal, he wrote: "I'm out! Thank you to my friends, family and you for the love, support and prayers."

It's been a tough few months for the star who has had a number of spells in rehab for substance abuse. In September last year he is said to have left his court-ordered treatment facility again. He had previously allegedly "disappeared" from the facility twice in the summer.

Bam has been open about his addictions in the past and previously said his dependence on painkillers came about because of his dangerous stunts.
