Jack Whitehall has spoken about his impending fatherhood for the first time since sharing over the weekend that he and girlfriend Roxy Horner are expecting a baby together.
The comedian, 34, revealed the happy news on his Instagram page on Sunday alongside images of him and model Horner, 31, showing off images from a baby scan.
The London-born star is currently touring the UK on his stand-up Settle Down Tour and, according to The Sun, he told the audience during his Southend show the idea of becoming a father filled him with “trepidation”.
He jokingly said: “But I have been responsible and we have got a dog first. If you can keep the dog alive then you have a kid.”
Whitehall added: “I look at some of my friends and think, ‘You could not even keep a plant alive’”.
Hopefully he will pick up a parenting guide or two ahead of the birth.
Meanwhile, the mum-to-be told HELLO magazine that she felt relieved to “finally fall pregnant” after the couple suffered a miscarriage last year.
She told the publication: “We had a miscarriage last year and so there was a part of me that was worried to open up too soon about this baby because I was so worried something would happen again and I didn’t want to have to kind of tell the world.”
She also shared how they had discovered their baby news during a trip with her family to Australia.
It was really lovely because I got to tell my mum pretty much straight away and I don’t get to see my parents too often, so it was a really perfect moment before he went off on tour,” Horner recalled.
Adding: “We found out the same week my nan passed away. There’s a part of me that feels like my nan knew we were trying for a baby and maybe this was her gift to us.”
