Jack Walker opens up on Leeds Rhinos exit and discusses long-term future

Jack Walker has revealed he had a sinking feeling when first discovering he could be leaving Leeds Rhinos. Walker has headed out on loan to Hull FC for the season in a deal that can be made permanent if the Black and Whites decide to take up the option.

Walker made his debut for the Rhinos at 17 and was part of the Grand Final winning side in his debut season back in 2017. A boyhood Rhinos fan, Walker admitted playing for the club was a lifelong dream fulfilled.

Now he has potentially played his last game for the club. Now 22, Walker is unsure of what the future holds but opened up about the heartache of leaving Headingley, even if only for the season at this stage.

"To be fair I was gutted," he said. "I've never been out of Leeds. I've grown up supporting Leeds, I've always wanted to play for Leeds and wanted to be a legend at Leeds.

"It was tough to sink at the start but I think it's for the best. My manager, Craig, thinks it's for the best and he's normally right with everything he does so if I get some game time, that's fair enough. That's the main thing, I'm sick of playing a short span of games and getting injured. I'm wanting to end the season strong.

"But I've got put out of my comfort zone and every single one of the lads has been welcoming and made it that much easier for me."

Asked about his future beyond the season, he added: "I've not put much thought into it. I'm here for the season so I'll give my all for the boys this season. Hopefully, we can stay in the top six and play finals footy. My focus is on this year and next year will sort itself out."
