Jack Monroe backs indyref2 and says Scotland 'deserves better' than Westminster

The food writer said that she would be happy to come to Scotland to campaign for a second independence referendum

FOOD writer and activist Jack Monroe has come out in favour of Scottish independence.

In a response a tweet of her standing outside 10 Downing Street, one follower said: “Got my vote unless you are anti #indyref2.”

Monroe responded by saying that she supported Scotland deciding its own constitutional future, appearing to endorse a Yes vote.

The celebrity cook said: “All for it, Scotland deserves better than the scraps that Westminster reluctantly throws every now and then while bleeding your resources dry.

“Happy to come and campaign for the #indyref2 any time - have a lot of love for your beautiful country.”

Monroe came to prominence for her budget-friendly recipes, which she shared on her blog Cooking on a Bootstrap.

They have since become known as a passionate campaigner against food poverty and recently gave evidence to the Work and Pensions Select Committee on how the rising cost of living is affecting people across the UK.

The activist also recently humiliated Piers Morgan after one of his producer’s reached out and asked her to be a guest on his Uncensored show.

Monroe shared a message from the producer on her Twitter which said: “Hi Jack, Are you interested in coming on to Piers Morgan’s new show Piers Morgan Uncensored soon?

“The show is really keen to cover the cost of living crisis – of course – and also bring your recipes and approach to our global audience. Piers would love to have you. He's a huge fan - as is the team.”

The cook posted the message with a screenshot which showed that Morgan has her blocked on Twitter.

She is set to come to Scotland for the Edinburgh Book Festival in August where she will discuss the cost-of-living crisis and the systemic change required to solve food poverty.
