Jack Hendry told there's no Brugge vendetta as Scotland star suffers another mortifying manager snub

Club Brugge centre-back Jack Hendry has fallen even further down the Belgian club's pecking order – but he's been told it's nothing personal.

Last month the Scotland star slammed boss Alfred Schreuder for not picking him and insisted he was the best defender at the club.

But he's suffered another blow as 19-year-old Abakar Sylla was picked ahead of the £5m man as he was left out of Brugge's weekend squad entirely.

Former Celtic man Hendry was omitted from the vital 1-0 win with Sylla, yet to play a minute of senior football, named on the bench ahead of him.

And Schreuder didn't exactly offer up any encouragement to the former Dundee star when he was quizzed about Hendry's future.

He said: "My decision to use Abakar on the substitute's bench instead of Jack was because Abakar continues to develop well and not personally against Jack.

"I know that Jack must feel I am against him, but I can't help that.

"It was a choice for the team I had to make."

Hendry has now not started a game for Brugge since a win against Kortrijk in January. With fellow defenders Kieran Tierney and Nathan Patterson both recovering from surgery, it's an additional problem national team manager Steve Clarke could do without.
