Jack Draper vows to improve physicality after Wimbledon exit: ‘Next year I’ll be a different player’

Jack Draper believes he needs to improve his physicality to make his mark in the Grand Slams, after being knocked out by Alex de Minaur at Wimbledon.

Draper, 20, who took a set off Novak Djokovic on his debut last year, won the opening set against the No19 seed but his challenge faded in a 5-7, 7-6, 6-2, 6-3 loss.

“The main thing is the physicality,” said Draper. “Grand Slam tennis is completely different. This is one of my first experiences — also playing against a guy who is known for being unbelievably resilient. It’s a really good challenge for me.

“It’s not rocket science. Guys at the start of their career, it’s a natural progression. It takes time to be physically better and able to come to the Grand Slams and compete for long matches back to back. It’s just the process that I’m on.

“I think next year I’ll be a different player.”
