Jack Butland is out of contract this summer- and he is one player Rangers should target for the goalkeeping position, according to Barry Ferguson.
Michael Beale ramped up speculation surrounding 41-year-old stopper Allan McGregor ahead of Sunday's match with Aberdeen by admitting that he could be off this summer. The club already have Jon McLaughlin and Robby McCrorie in reserve but one failed to impress consistently during his short stint as number one under Gio van Bronckhorst, while the other has been battling back to full fitness.
Speaking on Go Radio, former club captain Ferguson insists that Butland is one they could chase. The 30-year-old is currently serving as deputy on loan at Manchester United from Crystal Palace, where his terms come to a close this summer, and the Record Sport columnist reckons he'd be a safe pair of hands. He said: "Top goalkeepers win you games, so it will be interesting to see over the next couple of months what actually happens with Allan McGregor.
"If Rangers are to sign a new goalkeeper, I remember it would cost a few quid, as good goalkeepers don't come out of contract. There has been one goalkeeper mentioned, Jack Butland, he was a young keeper when I was at Birmingham.
"He is out of contract in the summer and that could be an option in the summer. That might be an option for Rangers going forward."
