Music and film industry darlings Jack Antonoff and Margaret Qualley tied the knot this weekend in an understated ceremony in New Jersey, alongside a selection of their close family and friends, including, but not limited to: Channing Tatum, Zoe Kravitz, Lana Del Rey, Cara Delevingne and Andie MacDowell.
Despite the star-studded guestlist, the wedding looked intimate and low-key — at least until it leaked that one of the star-studded attendees was none other than Ms Taylor Swift herself, aka Jack Antonoff’s long-time musical collaborator.
And where Taylor Swift goes, her fans follow.
Swifties set their sights on Antonoff and Qualley’s rehearsal dinner restaurant as well as their reception venue and crowded outside, forming a throng that encompassed the entire building and causing enough ruckus that the police were called to attend.
Pretty wild, but aside from this moment of madness, the celebrations, which started with a rehearsal dinner at the Black Whale Bar & Fish House in Beach Haven, and continued onto the equally humble dinings establishments of Bird & Betty’s and Parker's Garage & Oyster Saloon Beach Haven, looked classy and pared back — a kitten heel or flats affair, if you get what I mean.
But Antonoff and Qualley have always kept it low-key. The couple’s relationship first entered the public eye in October 2021 via paparazzi pictures of them strolling through Brooklyn, chatting and eating ice creams with their arms draped over each other’s shoulders. This came a few months after Qualley’s split from Shia LaBeouf and six years after Antonoff’s split from his big ex, Lena Dunham, though he did date model Carlotta Kohl in the interim period.
After this first picture of the pair surfaced, they were papped again shortly afterwards, strolling and kissing, this time in Tribeca, then in West Hollywood. To be honest most of the news about their relationship over the first few months involved pictures of them strolling and kissing. Good for them! Get your steps in, guys.
They attended their first official event as a couple, the AFI Awards Luncheon at the Beverly Wilshire, a few months later, in March 2022, and became Instagram official later that month. All in all, things seem to have been going swimmingly for the pair ever since they were first linked as a couple.
At their New Jersey wedding Qualley looked radiant in an ivory halterneck gown by Chanel, which featured subtle bead work around the trim of the neckline, and a billowing white veil which she later detached. The bride also wore matching Chanel flats, as is typical of Qualley — she’s not a heels girl — and emulated a 2021 runway moment when she walked for, you guessed it, Chanel, as their bride. Talk about foreshadowing!
Antonoff rocked a traditional black tux with wireframe specs and a straight tie, which he appeared to wear for both the ceremony and reception. Qualley, however, had a costume change mid-way through, eventually emerging from her wedding venue in an entirely different, puff sleeved, backless white gown, though she stuck with the Chanel flats throughout the night.
Also in flats was mother of the bride Andie MacDowell, who was photographed wearing a palm tree-patterned summer dress and nude sandals, and singer Lana Del Rey (another close collaborator of Antonoff), who was wearing platform pink sliders. If the dress code says smart casual, you bet Lana is going to take the casual part seriously.
Zoe Kravitz and Channing Tatum were on hand to provide a lesson in wedding guest dressing, with Kravitz appearing wearing a strapless black midi dress and black kitten heels, martini in hand, with a blood red shoulderbag tucked under her spare arm. Tatum, for his part, wore a stone-coloured linen blazer with a dark shirt, wide leg pants and loafers. In later pictures, he can be seen to be sipping on what looks very much like a spicy margarita. What more could you want.
Meanwhile, guest of honour Taylor Swift wore a pale blue, floral lace dress with a boned corset detail around the bust, sporting her trademark red lip and clutching a half-finished glass of white wine, completely unaware of the chaos about to ensue.
Swift is rumoured to have made a 15 minute toast at the wedding, where she “roasted” Antonoff and Qualley, and left wedding guests in stitches, according to Page Six. The publication also reports that Lana Del Rey provided the musical stylings for the couple’s first dance, and that a tattoo artist was on hand to offer permanent inkings of the special occasion.
