St Mirren manager Stephen Robinson has confirmed he has had at least one pre-contract approach for his goalkeeper Jak Alnwick.
Several Scottish clubs such as Aberdeen and Hibs are keen on the 28-year-old, who is suspended for the clash with Motherwell this weekend, as he is out of contract in the summer, whilst there is also interest from England.
The Buddies boss has acknowledged that they have made the best offer they can and admits if it comes down to finance then they might not be able to compete with some of the teams who are interested.
Robinson confirmed: “It would be wrong of me to talk about private conversations.
“We have had approaches from different people.
“Some do it the right way and have the respect to speak to you about it but they are not obliged to, that is football.
“People speak to players, we have good players here and we need to hold our hands up.
“People will want our players, I want other people’s players and that is the nature of the game.
“Everything is up in the air for every player. “They all have the right to decide what they do.
“We have made very good offers to individuals, as high as we can go. We will see what happens.”
Robinson admitted there is also the possibility he could lose some of his backroom staff to Aberdeen, where St Mirren manager Jim Goodwin is now in charge.
Goalkeeping coach Jamie Langfield has already ruled out a Pittodrie return.
Robinson insisted: “Potentially. You are always at the mercy of other clubs.
“When you have good people who work for you then people want them.
"If you have good players and staff then that is the nature of the beast then we are further down the food chain against clubs with bigger finances that may attract the better players and staff.
“It happened to me at Motherwell and you are always at the mercy of that.
“There are always replacements but it isn’t something I need to deal with at this moment in time.
“If I do then I know a lot of good people and we will have a look and worry about it if it happens.”
St Mirren have already signed Motherwell midfielder Mark O’Hara on a pre-contract for next season.
Robinson refused to speak about the player with both sides set to clash for a top six berth on Saturday.
He heads back to his former club where he stated his highlights as Motherwell boss were keeping them up in his first season and also leading them to third against the odds.
The St Mirren manager, when asked about O’Hara, stated: “I am not discussing anybody else’s players.
“The players are contracted. Unfortunately, other managers discuss players but I don’t.
“I make it a policy not to discuss anybody else’s players. “You can ask me if they are a good player and I will tell you if they are a good player but I don’t think it is right to be discussing anybody’s else’s players at this moment in time.”
St Mirren hope that Jordan Jones will be fit for the Fir Park clash and Alex Greive should be back today from New Zealand duty.
