The idea of Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals structuring his extension in a creative way that helps the team afford to keep all of the offense’s weapons around the franchise star just gained some major steam.
Thank Ja’Marr Chase. Appearing during Super Bowl media interviews, Chase said he thinks what’s most important for Burrow when it comes to an extension is keeping his weapons around him.
NFL Network’s Andrew Siciliano captured the clip:
“I don’t think Joe’s too worried about the money he’s gonna make because he’s already making a tremendous amount. It will always work out. I think Joe knows what he wants and how he wants to set up his contract to keep some of his weapons around him. I think that’s the biggest part for him.”

This is in line with what we’ve projected in the past and has long been speculated about Burrow’s upcoming extension. The Bengals want it done this offseason to stay ahead of the quarterback market, among other reasons. Getting it out of the way before possible extensions for weapons like Tee Higgins and Chase is a big part of that, too.
Were the Bengals to mimic the rolling guarantees in the contract Patrick Mahomes signed with the Chiefs — something Mike Brown has brought up multiple times — it would allow Burrow to be the league’s highest-paid passer and still help the team keep enough free cash to bring back the other big names around him.
Burrow is now eligible for the extension and both sides have made it clear they want to get started on the process.
