BJP president J. P. Nadda on Wednesday interacted with a group of 13 foreign envoys at the party headquarters in New Delhi on its Foundation Day, a first in a series of such interactions to be held under the “Know the BJP” series organised by the party.
Many of the envoys were from countries bordering Ukraine and who had helped India evacuate its nationals during Operation Ganga. Mr. Nadda acknowledged the help and conveyed his gratitude for the same.
The envoys were from Bangladesh, Poland, Portugal, Switzerland, Romania, the head of the European Union delegation, Singapore, Slovakia, Italy, Hungary, Vietnam and Norway.
They were welcomed by convenor of the BJP overseas affairs cell Vijay Chauthaiwale. Party’s vice–president Baijayant Panda gave a brief introduction of the BJP and thereafter a documentary on the BJP was shown to the envoys.
Mr. Nadda explained to the envoys in detail the party’s ideology, its principles and electoral history and how it has risen, party leaders said. He emphasised on the party’s principals of cultural nationalism and integral humanism.
An exhaustive question and answer session was also held in the meeting which lasted for more than three hours. A high tea was also hosted where External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar also joined. Sources present at the meeting said the questions from the envoys ranged from the organisational structure of the party, to how candidates are selected during polls to the treatment of minorities and even asking for a field visit to districts where direct benefit transfer scheme has had a transformative effect.
BJP leaders said the party intends to continue such interactions with small groups of diplomats. Exchanges of delegations with political parties of friendly countries are also being planned in due course of time.
