Four militants have been killed in an ongoing anti-militancy operation in Jammu & Kashmir’s Poonch district (Surankote area), the Army said on July 18.
The operation, which is jointly carried out by the Army and the J&K Police, was launched on Monday evening (July 17) following a tip-off. The operation, named Operation Trinetra-II, is still ongoing in the areas around Sindarah and Maidana villages in Surankote, Poonch.
“In the major cordon and search operation, acting on a specific intelligence, four terrorists were eliminated in a joint operation by the Army and the police,” the Army said.
Four AK-47, two pistols and other war-like stores were also recovered. “The elimination of these terrorists has avoided major terrorist-initiated incidents in Rajouri and Poonch area,” the Army said. The search operation continues in the area.
The security agencies were investigating if the same group was behind the Dhangri attack, which left seven civilians dead in Rajouri district in January.
Earlier, two infiltrators were killed in a separate operation of the Army on Monday along the Line of Control, in Poonch.
