I've Discovered a $3 Kitchen Spice Could Keep Squirrels Out of Your Garden for Good – and It’s Already in Your Pantry

Grey squirrel on a plant pot.

Squirrels may be charming to watch from a distance, but they can quickly become frustrating visitors when they start digging up newly planted bulbs, raiding fruit crops, or scattering soil from containers. After trying various ways to protect my garden, I discovered that one of the simplest solutions was already sitting in my kitchen cupboard: cayenne pepper.

There are, of course, many ways to get rid of squirrels, from motion-activated sprinklers to planting pest-repellent flowers. Best of all, when used correctly, this natural method does not harm squirrels. Instead, it simply encourages them to look elsewhere for food and digging opportunities.
