Ivan Toney placed bets on Newcastle United to LOSE while he was still under contract at the club, the Football Association has revealed. The Brentford striker was handed an eight-month football ban earlier this month after accepting 232 breaches of the FA's rules on betting.
The FA released written reasons for Toney's suspension on Friday, revealing how many and which matches the striker had placed bets on. The commission noted that none of the charges related to games where Toney could negatively impact his own team.
The 27-year-old has been found to have bet against his own team 13 times between 2017 and 2018, 11 of those being placed against Newcastle while Toney was away from the club on loan.

The FA's statement read: "There were 13 bets on Mr Toney's own team to lose in 7 different matches between August 2017 and March 2018. Mr Toney did not play in any of those matches where he placed bets against his loan club as he was not in the match squad or against as his parent club as he was on loan at another club.
"Of the 13 bets, 11 were against Newcastle whilst Mr Toney was on loan at another club. The other 2 bets related to a game between Wigan v Aston Villa whilst the player was on loan at Wigan but was not part of the squad."
Toney joined Newcastle United in 2015 but enjoyed loan spells at Barnsley, Shrewsbury, Scunthorpe and Wigan before his eventual permanent exit in 2018. After two years at Peterborough United, the forward joined Brentford and helped them reach the Premier League.
Reacting to the findings on Friday, Brentford said: "The club will now be doing everything possible to provide support to Ivan and his family to deal with the issues raised in this case. Conversations regarding this and all matters relating to the case will remain confidential in order to protect the player and his family.
"We consider this matter closed and look forward to welcoming Ivan back to training in September and seeing him representing Brentford in the Premier League in January."
