Ivan Toney has appeared before a disciplinary panel over his betting offences.
Brentford striker Toney was charged with 232 breaches in November and a further 30 in December of Football Association rules.
Toney could face a lengthy ban over the case, which dates back to alleged bets placed as far back as 2017 when he was a Newcastle player on loan at Scunthorpe.
It is believed he has admitted some of the cases but not all and has now given further evidence before a disciplinary panel this Tuesday. The case has already been running for six months but appears to be drawing to a conclusion with his appearance before the panel.
It is understood Toney could face a ban of up to six months, although that could be served across the summer.
Toney, 27, was called up by England earlier this season and has won a senior cap but was not named in Gareth Southgate's World Cup squad just weeks after the allegations became public.
The big centre-forward has recently been tipped with moves away from Brentford after another impressive season in the Premier League.
Arsenal and Manchester United are among the clubs who have been linked but no one is likely to make a move until his future is resolved.
Toney reacted furiously after it was reported in March that he had admitted some of the cases against him, insisting there should be a "leak enquiry" at the FA.
The FA and Brentford have refused to comment after being contacted by Mirror Sport.
Brentford boss Thomas Frank has backed his player publicly and says he expects the case to be resolved imminently as they may have to brace themselves for losing him for a sustained period.
Talking last week, Frank said: "I am pretty sure we will know where we stand before the season ends or just after the season so we can react, potentially.
"Right now we are in a good position. We have four good players in Kevin Schade, Yoane Wissa, Bryan Mbeumo, Keane Lewis-Potter. But we have to wait until the result of the hearing before we do anything. But we are prepared if we need to do anything."
