ITV1's Dancing on Ice announces shock semi-final twist

As we get closer to the final of ITV1's Sunday night entertainment show Dancing on Ice, things only getting harder and harder for the celebrity skaters - and they're certainly going to face some big changes in the semi-final on Sunday, March 5.

Now that Carly Stenson has been eliminated from the show, following an injury to her shoulder during the skate-off, the five remaining couples have a tough week ahead. They will have to learn not one but two dances, one of which they will perform with their partner and one they will perform on their own - and two skaters will be eliminated in the skate-off instead of one.

Host of the show Phillip Schofield announced the news to the skaters live on air on Saturday, February 26. He said: "I have some big news about the semi-final because I can reveal that next week there will be a double elimination. Not one but two couples will be leaving the competition."

The celebrities looked very shocked by the news and in a pre-recorded clip Coronation Street star Mollie Gallagher said: "Two routines in one week, is this a joke?" while Olympic gymnast Nile Wilson said: "I really want to be in that final, I would love to be competing for the trophy".

Elsewhere in the show judge Jayne Torvill appeared with her arm in a sling, after sustaining a painful injury. Chatting to host Phillip Schofield, Jayne explained she had injured her arm and needs to have surgery.

She said: "Talking of things going wrong on the ice, I've injured my bicep tendon so I need to get surgery...I am going to have to have surgery," while Christopher Dean joked: "I am studying up for it!"

The Dancing on Ice semi-final will air on Sunday, March 5 at 6.30pm on ITV1.
