ITV1 Endeavour fans in 'floods of tears' as they hail last ever episode 'sublime'

Fans of the classic crime drama Endeavour have been left in "floods of tears" after the series came to an end after 11 years. The Morse prequel, starring Shaun Evans in the title role of DS Endeavour Morse and Roger Allam as DCI Fred Thursday, aired its last ever episode on Sunday, March 12.

ITV1 viewers had been wondering how the long-standing series would be concluded after bosses announced it would be ending after the ninth season, and it would seem the final did not disappoint.

The two-hour film saw some loose ends wrapped up and revisited a major past case. Reacting to the last episode, one viewer wrote: "In absolute floods after the final episode of #Endeavour - an absolute masterclass and what a way to end the series, which has been brilliant from start to finish. Mind how you go."

While another added: "Farewell #Endeavour - always the classiest show on the box till the very last. Heartbreaking finale but a real classic tragi-love story for the ages. Sublime."

And a third echoed: "Exquisite acting, production and writing for the final #Endeavour. What an incredibly powerful episode. I think I need to lie down in a dark room!"

"Endeavour wow absolutely the best," said a fourth. "Still sobbing #Morse perfect ending. Congratulations to all especially #ShaunEvans #RogerAllam @EndeavourTV."

And the comments kept coming as another viewer wrote: "Endeavour What an ending. Superb. Thank you Sobbing mess here."

Prior to the final series airing, executive producer Damien Timmer explained the decision for ending it. He said: "Endeavour has been a real labour of love for all of us, and we salute Russell Lewis for his extraordinary achievement in chronicling Endeavour Morse's coming of age across 72 hours of TV.

"Russell always knew where he wanted the series to end, and that Remorseful Day is nearly upon us! We’d like to thank Shaun and Roger and all the other members of the Endeavour family on and off screen, and to the show’s fans both in the U.K. and abroad. Russell has many surprises up his sleeve for the final three films, with the return of some familiar faces and new challenges for Endeavour and Thursday to face before the final goodbye!"
