The penultimate episode of ITV's Endeavour aired on Sunday, March 5 but the realisation that it comes to an end for good next week is too much for some. It was announced the ninth series, which is made up of three feature-length films, will be the drama's last.
Producers, screenwriter Russell Lewis, and actors Shaun Evans and Roger Allam mutually decided to bring the internationally renowned Endeavour to a close after 10 phenomenally successful years. Prior to the final series airing, executive producer Damien Timmer said: "Endeavour has been a real labour of love for all of us, and we salute Russell Lewis for his extraordinary achievement in chronicling Endeavour Morse's coming of age across 72 hours of TV.
"Russell always knew where he wanted the series to end, and that Remorseful Day is nearly upon us! We’d like to thank Shaun and Roger and all the other members of the Endeavour family on and off screen, and to the show’s fans both in the U.K. and abroad. Russell has many surprises up his sleeve for the final three films, with the return of some familiar faces and new challenges for Endeavour and Thursday to face before the final goodbye!"

Endeavour first aired on ITV as a single film in January 2012 and season eight aired in the UK in September 2021, so the ninth and final series had been a long time coming. However, following the penultimate episode on Sunday night, many emotional fans took to social media.
One person wrote: "I can’t believe that next week is the last ever. It’s going to be so missed," while another added: "The best prequel ever written. Spot on, from the crockery to characterisation. Dreading the finale and welcoming it in equal measure."
"I think I'll be needing tissues and lots of chocolate next week," said a third, while a fourth commented: "A terrific episode. Dreading where it’s all leading next week…"
