ITV Trigger Point viewers are saying the same thing after dramatic first episode

Trigger Point is the brand new police drama from ITV.

Written by screenwriting newcomer Daniel Brierley and produced by Jed Mercurio's HTM Television, the show "turns the spotlight on counter terrorism policing and the extraordinary work of the Metropolitan Police Bomb Disposal Squad".

Described as a "high octane thriller", Trigger Point follows Lana Washington (McLure), who is an experienced bomb disposal operative, known as an "Expo" and Joel Nutkins (Lester), who works alongside her. You can see the full cast list for Trigger Point here.

The series kicked off on Sunday, January 23 with many tuning in to see the Line of Duty star in action, but as the hour unfolded some viewers took to Twitter over the placement of the adverts.

"The suspense doesn't quite flow when an advert pops up every five minutes," wrote one.

While another added: "Trigger Point is good but for a high-tension show the adverts ruin the tension."

And a third commented: "Really enjoying #TriggerPoint but c'monnnn there's no need for this many adverts! @ITV."

Others, however, were grateful for the breaks, pointing out it gave them a second to catch their breath.

One viewer said: "I thought that adverts would be annoying while watching Trigger Point, but it turns out they are very handy to help catch your breath!"

Despite the criticism an explosive cliffhanger at the end of the first instalment left everyone at the edge of their seats.

As a mammoth explosion detonated, the fate of Adrian's character Joel was left uncertain as the closing moments saw Lana crawling towards her injured colleague. You can read more on this here.

"My heart literally just fell out my a**," wrote one viewer.

While a second added: "#TriggerPoint was really exciting, a huge cliffhanger to start. Can't wait to see how the rest of it plays out."

Although a third wrote: "After all those breaks you could've at least not left it on a cliffhanger."

Even actress Vicky who knew what was coming was left spooked, telling fans: How we doing?! (Even I jumped!!) #TriggerPoint."

Trigger Point stars Sunday at 9pm on ITV.
