ITV Trigger Point: Star Vicky McClure gives new insight into six-part thriller

Star of the upcoming ITV drama Trigger Point, Vicky McClure, has said that being the sole star in the show took her by surprise.

McClure was making an appearance on the Graham Norton Show, which aired at 10.30pm on the BBC on Friday, January 21 to plug the new high-octane drama.

During the interview she talked about her role in the show as well as a new meme that has been going around social media regarding Boris Johnson.

The star, who is best known for her role as DI Kate Fleming in BBC hit Line Of Duty, plays Lana Washington in the new six-part ITV thriller, which starts this Sunday, January 23.

McClure said the challenges of playing a complex character like Lana was what appealed to her when taking on the role.

She said: "She's not a copper; she couldn’t arrest anyone if she wanted to! She has to have a police officer by her at all times, she's a bomb disposal expert."

The host then asked her what it was like being the sole star of the show, instead of one among three in Line of Duty.

She replied: "It really took me by surprise.

"I felt like a crew member by the end.

"I was really up for it and the challenges I got in there; Lana’s story was all there, there was so much for me to do.

"In the Met there aren’t any female bomb disposal experts.

"Until you get up close and personally you don’t know what happening or what's going on."

Kenneth Branagh, Rachel Zegler and Rose Matafeo were also in the guests' chair on Friday evening, with Emeli Sande performing at the end of the show.

After some prodding from the guests, and a snippet of a scene from Trigger Point, McClure divulged some extra information about the programme.

She said: "There might be some wire cutting - she's got some snips, so quite a big deal!"

Norton also asked her about the new meme circulating in which the Boris Johnson has been edited into a meme in which he is being interrogated by the Line of Duty characters.

When asked if she had seen it, McClure, with a smile on her face, simply replied: "I can't confirm or deny anything."
