ITV Trigger Point star Adrian Lester's fate confirmed after fans fear worst for his character

*THIS CONTAINS SPOILERS FOR EPISODE TWO*

Trigger Point viewers have reacted with anger and sadness after leading actor Adrian Lester was killed off after just one episode.

After a rather slow opening, the new ITV thriller built to a devastating crescendo at the end of its first episode, with Adrian's character, army veteran and experienced explosives officer Joel 'Nut' Nutkins, left in mortal peril as a bomb went off right next to where he was standing.

The final moments of the first part saw his on-screen partner in crime, Vicky McClure 's character Lana Washington, being dragged to safety in the aftermath of the explosion.

Fans were left fearing the worst for TV favourite Adrian and as the opening scenes of episode 2 saw Lana listen to a report on the Westhaven bombing on the radio, the announcer confirmed 40-year-old Nut was among the fatalities.

Hearing that was enough to make Lana switch off her radio and many people watching at home reacted badly too.

Adrian had tweeted in the hours leading up to the second part of Trigger Point going out on ITV, urging people to tune in.

And many fans were quick to let them know exactly what they thought of the decision to let his character meet his maker so soon.

One tweeted: "I can’t believe they killed off a big star like Adrian Lester in the first episode!" with a second reacting: "Watched #TriggerPoint for Adrian Lester he's killed end of Episode One I stopped watching The End"

A third posted: "They killed @AdrianLester are you being serious? #TriggerPoint My trigger point has been activated!"

Others are convinced there will be a plot twist in the works and Nut isn't actually dead; although given producer's Jed Mercurio's ruthless trend for killing off main characters, that might not be a realistic prospect.
