ITV Tipping Point Lucky Stars' Gaby Roslin's family heartache and mugging ordeal

Gaby Roslin is set to compete on tonight's episode of Tipping Point Lucky Stars.

The 57-year-old will be joined by JJ Chalmers and Sean Fletcher on a special edition of the popular ITV game show. Ben Shephard will host as the celebrities attempt to win big money for their chosen charity from the arcade style machine.

Gaby's first TV appearances came as the presenter of Hippo and Motormouth, before she sky-rocketed to fame as the host of the Big Breakfast in 1992. The TV personality fronted the iconic programme alongside Chris Evans until the Warrington DJ quit the show in 1994.

Gaby continued to host the show alongside his replacement, Mark Little, until she left to front her own programme for Channel 4 in 1996. The entertainment personality continued to lead an impressive career in TV as she went on to host Children in Need alongside Terry Wogan and the National Lottery Draws.

Away from the screen, Gaby was married to musician Colin Peel from 1995 - 2004 and they shared a daughter named Libbi-Jack. The TV presenter is currently married to publisher David Osmon and the happy couple share a daughter named Amelie.

Gaby and David have been married since 2013, but the presenter told the Loose Women she initially thought the proposal was a joke. She added: "It was very romantic and we were on holiday. We went down to the beach with the girls, looking at the stars. Suddenly all three of us are standing there and he went down on one knee and said 'Would you do me the honour of being my wife?', and I thought he was joking."

During an appearance on The Wright Stuff, Gaby revealed she was once attacked on the street in front of her children when she approached a woman for dropping litter in the street in London. According to Mirror Online, she said: “I asked them to pick it up and they punched me in the face in front of my kids. That’s a completely true story. I wasn’t trying to arrest her.

"I took my kids hands and I turned around. My kids were really shocked. It wasn’t very nice.”

Gaby also opened up on the episode how she was once left shaking after being mugged. She said: "This guy on a bicycle came up behind me and knocked me over and grabbed my phone.

"I chased down the street after him yelling obscenities. There was one woman who ran out to help me. Not one man helped me.

"I then chased him into Oxford Street. I have run like I have never run before. I was so angry. I didn’t know I had that in me. Then I got the shakes and collapsed. I was in shock.

"He tried to beat me up as well. But the police were fantastic and they kept in touch with me the whole time. But interestingly a lot of people who I have told the story to says the same thing happened to them and the police didn’t. They said I was lucky because I was on the telly."

Gaby is the daughter of BBC broadcaster Clive Roslin - and said she changed her approach to life during a traumatic period 26 years ago when he was diagnosed with bowel cancer. Gaby's mum, Jackie, found out she had lung cancer soon after her husband's diagnosis - and died 6 six weeks after she discovered her illness.

The experience of losing her mum and caring for her dad prompted Gaby to change her approach to life. She told Yours Magazine : "I started devouring everything there was to know about health and nutrition after that and even now I love to read medical papers and articles until late into the night.

“For years in the public eye I used to be told ‘you’re such a happy person, always smiling, surely that can’t be real’ and I used to say ‘I’m really sorry but it is. Then after mum died I just decided to stop apologising for enjoying life and being a happy person."

Gaby channelled her positive approach to life into a successful podcast when she asks celebrity guests to share the things that make them happy. The podcast is currently releasing episodes from season 2 - and she has previously been joined by guests such as Suranne Jones and Robert Rinder.

Tipping Point Lucky Stars airs tonight at 7pm on ITV and ITV Hub
