Gyles Brandreth has been criticised for his view on Jeremy Clarkson's comments about Meghan Markle which he made in his column in The Sun. Discussing the matter on ITV's This Morning, the 74-year-old suggested: "We're playing [Clarkson's] game. We're talking about it. It's done to draw attention and it's great for The Sun and great for him. He thinks he's being heard. I think that if you haven't got anything positive to say, don't say anything."
Whilst Gyles seemed to totally disagree with Clarkson, he added: "Tis' the season to be jolly so my view is, don't talk about it anymore." The discussion came after the former Top Gear presenter said that he hates the Duchess of Sussex more than serial killer Rose West. His comments, which have been described as "abhorrent", have garnered a huge reaction. One person who was particularly disappointed was Carol Vorderman. Read more about what she thought here.
"Silence is the unbearable repartee," added Gyles, who implied that Clarkson doesn't deserve coverage. His reaction, which was condemned by host Josie Gibson, has also been criticised on social media.

One person said of Gyles' thoughts: "I cannot understand why Gyles Brandreth is invited to comment on important issues. He never has anything of significance to say. On the cost of living crisis, he was at pains to make light of the ensuing hardship facing many. On Jeremy Clarkson, his contribution is to ignore him?"
A second wrote: "Watching @thismorning and Gyles Brandreth @GylesB1 comes out with the type of response I expected from him regarding Clarkson’s vile comments," taking aim at the This Morning regular.
Meanwhile, a third added: "Disgusting that Gyles Brandreth is insisting on national TV we should all just shut up about Jeremy Clarkson's column." And a fourth wrote: "Gyles Brandreth stop telling us to ignore Jeremy Clarkson's hateful views. We have to speak out on such comments. Imagine if he remains silent on all issues that incited violence and hate. By saying this he is effectively wanting to silence the voice of any opposing views."
Elsewhere, some people agreed with Gyles' stance on Clarkson, writing: "Not having seen what was written. Having heard it in slightly more detail on #ThisMorning what he has written does sound rather bad though. I am with Gyles Brandreth talking about it, gives it more publicity."
